The thought of writing an input on this was recently awakened when I found out about the potato planet. Oh yes, you read that 100% correctly. The potato planet. Apparently we have a (dwarf) planet in our solar system that is basically shaped like a potato. It was first discovered in 2003-2004, mashallah. And it took me this long to know about it, which makes me feel somwhat unenlightened. The following quotation about it is taken from the Nasa website…
“Haumea is an oval-shaped dwarf planet that is roughly the same size as Pluto. It is one of the fastest rotating large objects in our solar system. The fast spin distorts Haumea’s shape, making this dwarf planet look like a football.”

At any rate, this issue also raised a very interesting question…
Since the Quran speaks of the big bang theory… does it also address the aspect of life out there… beyond planet Earth?
سورة الشورى ٢٩
وَمِنۡ ءَايَٰتِهِۦ خَلۡقُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَثَّ فِيهِمَا مِن دَآبَّةٖۚ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ جَمۡعِهِمۡ إِذَا يَشَآءُ قَدِيرٞ
Surah Ash-Shura 42:29
And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the living creatures that He has scattered through them: and He has power to gather them together when He wills.
Let us consider the word “heavens” in the above aya. Heavens is stated in plural form and you can see it in a number of ayat throughout the Quran. We will look at some of them momentarily. But first… I want to bring this following aya to your attention. It has been discussed before, but in this case, I want you to specifically consider the word “heavens” when you read it….
سورة الأنبياء ٣٠
أَوَلَمۡ يَرَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ أَنَّ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ كَانَتَا رَتۡقٗا فَفَتَقۡنَٰهُمَاۖ
Surah Al-Anbiyaa 21:30
Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder?
Consider that space is now accepted as an expanding phenomenon that came to exist through the very scientific theory that is described here in this aya… “the Big Bang”, which resulted in countless of stars and galaxies. And there’s the word I now want you to consider… “galaxies”.
If we look at “galaxies” as being the “heavens” out there…. you see where I’m going with this? As the aya stated… Do not the Unbelievers see that the heavens and the earth were joined together (as one unit of creation), before we clove them asunder? Now, read and consider the following ayat with the information I just shared in mind, think of the word “heavens” as galaxies…
سورة البقرة ٢٥٥
لَّهُۥ مَا فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ
…
وَسِعَ كُرۡسِيُّهُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَۖ وَلَا يَـُٔودُهُۥ حِفۡظُهُمَاۚ وَهُوَ ٱلۡعَلِيُّ ٱلۡعَظِيمُ
سورة المائدة ١٢٠
لِلَّهِ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا فِيهِنَّۚ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيۡءٖ قَدِيرُۢ
Surah Al-Baqara 2:255
His are all things in the heavens and on earth.
…
His Throne doth extend over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).
Surah Al-Maaida 5:120
To Allah doth belong the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, and it is He Who hath power over all things.
Now I’m posting the aya I posted in the beginning again and under it another one…

Surah Ash-Shura 42:29

Surah An-Nahl 16:8
And (He has created) horses, mules, and donkeys, for you to ride and use for show; and He has created (other) things of which ye have no knowledge.
Are these hints that there is life out there? It makes me wonder what people of the past might have thought of the aya describing the Big Bang when they read it. Whatever one might think of the possibility of life beyond this Earth… with our present knowledge and understanding, the Quran neither directly confirms or denies it. But the idea is encouraged. It does make one thing very clear regardless of what position one takes on this matter… that He is the ruler over all, including any possible life out there.
سورة يونس ٦٦
أَلَآ إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَن فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَن فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ
Surah Yunus 10:66
Behold! verily to Allah belong all creatures, in the heavens and on earth.
