The sizes of the stars were described in previous inputs. This time, we will take a look at their locations in the sky. Consider that everything has a purpose and is created in perfect order. The very life of this world exists due to a balance of natural laws created by Allah.
سورة البقرة ٢٩
هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ لَكُم مَّا فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ اسْتَوَىٰ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ فَسَوَّاهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ ۚ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ
Surah Al-Baqara 2:29
It is He Who hath created for you all things that are on earth; Moreover His design comprehended the heavens, for He gave order and perfection to the seven firmaments; and of all things He hath perfect knowledge.
We know that the tilting of the Earth is essential to give us summer and winter seasons. When the south part of the globe is experiencing summer the northern part is experiencing winter and vice versa, all depending on which part of the globe is facing the sun. As a clear result, it gives us a colder or a warmer climate.
The moon affects the weather on this planet as well with its gravitational impact, while circling around us. The same kind of effect comes from neighbouring planets too “According to ScienceDaily, changes in Earth’s shape over time, coupled with gravitational actions from other planets in the solar system, directly affect the climate on Earth.” (Source: https://sciencing.com/shape-earths-orbit-5519847.html).
سورة ص ٢٧
وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِلًا
سورة النمل ٨٨
صُنْعَ اللَّهِ الَّذِي أَتْقَنَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ
Surah Saad 38:27
Not without purpose did We create heaven and earth and all between!
Surah An-Naml 27:88
the doing of Allah Who perfecteth all things.
Is it perhaps much larger… that the balance of life is dependent, not only on these elements closest to us… but also on distant objects out there? I believe that everything is connected, that there is a natural balance through the universe that makes it possible for life to thrive. As the aya from Surah Saad I just posted is saying… Not without purpose did We create heaven and earth and all between!
There are two very specific ayat in the Quran, from which I started to have these thoughts…
سورة الواقعة ٧٥-٧٦
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَاقِعِ النُّجُومِ
وَإِنَّهُ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ
Surah Al-Waaqia 56:75-76
Nay, I swear by the places of the stars –
And lo! that verily is a tremendous oath, if ye but knew –
I showed these two ayat to a brother at the local Masjid and he said…
“God is swearing by the locations of the stars. Not by the stars themselves. I don’t know why.”
Indeed, as that second aya is saying… a tremendous oath, if ye but knew.
Given what we have just gone through in this input… is it a far stretch to think that life on this Earth is very much dependent on the locations of the stars themselves? That is certainly interesting food for thought…
Any time you look up at the stars and consider what’s out there… remember to be grateful for this miracle we call “life”.
سورة النحل ١٢
وَسَخَّرَ لَكُمُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ وَالشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ ۖ وَالنُّجُومُ مُسَخَّرَاتٌ بِأَمْرِهِ ۗ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَعْقِلُونَ
Surah An-Nahl 16:12
He has made subject to you the Night and the Day; the sun and the moon; and the stars are in subjection by His Command: verily in this are Signs for men who are wise.
