Life presents many paths and choices. When we make choices, we expect an outcome. Those outcomes may turn out the way we hope, but in other cases not… during such times, we put ourselves at the centre of the choice we’ve made. Humans rarely consider that outcomes are not because of our own decisions… but His.
سورة الزمر ٤٩
فَإِذَا مَسَّ الْإِنسَانَ ضُرٌّ دَعَانَا ثُمَّ إِذَا خَوَّلْنَاهُ نِعْمَةً مِّنَّا قَالَ إِنَّمَا أُوتِيتُهُ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ ۚ بَلْ هِيَ فِتْنَةٌ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ
Surah Az-Zumar 39:49
Now, when trouble touches man, he cries to Us: But when We bestow a favour upon him as from Ourselves, he says, “This has been given to me because of a certain knowledge (I have)!” Nay, but this is but a trial, but most of them understand not!
We do not think much further than the choice we have made… we feel different emotions of a varying degree depending on success or failure. We may speak of things like tomorrow as a clear and sure thing, yet we know so very little about what is to come…
سورة النجم ٣٥
أَعِندَهُ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرَىٰ
سورة المائدة ١
إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَحْكُمُ مَا يُرِيدُ
Surah An-Najm 53:35
Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see?
Surah Al-Maaida 5:1
for Allah doth command according to His will and plan.
We should try to not get so caught up in ourselves that we fail to see His hand in all this, but rather try to remember that the things we hope and strive for are given to us. Remember to be grateful for each day you are given, for His generosity and mercy, and for the light and guidance that He is giving to all of us. Amin.
