What does the Quran tell me?

This is an interesting question that perhaps not many people consider that much. Words are simply read as part of a religious routine, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, and since we are so close to Ramadan at this point, it might be worth to take this question to heart… what does the Quran tell me?

سورة الزمر ٢٧
وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِي هَـٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ مِن كُلِّ مَثَلٍ لَّعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ

Surah Az-Zumar 39:27
We have put forth for men, in this Qur’an every kind of Parable, in order that they may receive admonition.

I usually tend to read from the Quran on a daily basis, not merely for the sake of reading it, but for the sake of trying to gain a deeper understanding inshallah… the greatest reward it can give is wisdom. It may point to something I should keep in mind for the day ahead, or maybe something I should consider more deeply in general. It was actually just recently I read the following lines…

سورة الحجر ٩٩-٩٤
اصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ الْمُشْرِكِينَ
إِنَّا كَفَيْنَاكَ الْمُسْتَهْزِئِينَ
الَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا آخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ
وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ
فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ السَّاجِدِينَ
وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُ

Surah Al-Hijr 15:94-99
Therefore expound openly what thou art commanded, and turn away from those who join false gods with Allah.
For sufficient are We unto thee against those who scoff,-
Those who adopt, with Allah, another god: but soon will they come to know.
We do indeed know how thy heart is distressed at what they say.
But celebrate the praises of thy Lord, and be of those who prostrate themselves in adoration.
And serve thy Lord until there come unto thee the Hour that is Certain.

Having lived all of my time as a believer in “hiding”, (more on this in my story about my journey to Islam), I felt those words spoke to me….
“For sufficient are We unto thee against those who scoff”
… as if telling me, don’t mind them, this is your time. In a similar sense, I also gained a deeper understanding of an aya after travelling abroad and having seen things there… (you can read the full story here.) To me… the Quran is more than just religious text… the words, in many instances, point to something in my life or things I should consider…

سورة الشورى ٥١
وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ أَن يُكَلِّمَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَّا وَحْيًا

سورة الانسان ٣
إِنَّا هَدَيْنَاهُ السَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا

Surah Ash-Shura 51
It is not fitting for a man that Allah should speak to him except by inspiration

Surah Al-Insaan 76:3
We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will).
