I shared a video recording of myself holding a Khutba for Eid Al Adha in my previous update. Since the Khutba was held in Swedish, I promised that I would share a translated version of that Khutba here with you. That way, you may take part of what the Khutba was all about. The Khutba dealt with the trial of Ibrahim when he was asked to sacrifice his son and what we can learn from that story…
The Khutba
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
One night, Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام) had a dream in which he was asked by Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) to sacrifice his beloved son Ishmail (عليه السلام). Ibrahim told his son about the dream and the son had an equally strong faith in Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) and said:
“Do as you are commanded. You will find me, inshallah, among those who are strong and enduring.”
Just as Ibrahim (عليه السلام) was about to sacrifice, Allah intervenes and says:
“You have already carried out the command given to you in the dream! Thus do we reward those who do good and right.”
Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) sends a sheep to Ibrahim (عليه السلام) to be sacrificed instead.
We learn from the story to submit to the command of our God and to follow our religion. That is the meaning of Islam, it is an effort to follow the religion as best we can through the trials of life.
We learn from the story that the best thing a Muslim can do today is to get closer to God through sacrifice, to be generous.
We also learn from the story that after difficulties comes relief. As the Quran also says:
سورة الشرح ٦
إِنَّ مَعَ الْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا
Surah Ash-Sharh 94:6
Verily, with every difficulty there is relief.
We put our faith in it. Because our faith takes us through the difficulties that life can bring. In the end, we then feel… that we are on the right path.
Alhamdulillah, I received positive comments even from those who actually understood the original Arabic Khutba, (which had been written and held by Imam Khalid). I always feel amazed to have been blessed with the opportunity to talk in front of muslims about these topics, but even more blessed to receive that kind of appreciation… to see that the words and teachings I share, reach into the hearts of the believers.
I hope that you found this an inspiring input.
The best of times to you all inshallah.
Peace, happiness, and stay faithful.
