I am sure this got your attention, perhaps especially if you are a muslim sister. The idea for this topic started with something that recently came to my attention. A video game. Ha, yes, you read that right. And for those who know me, it may not come as a big surprise. After all, my journey to Islam started in a very similar way, (through a game). Also, as many of you may have understood by now, I have a certain interest in astronomy and the stars out there, which is apparent from some of my previous posts.
So, I recently came across a game called “Terraformers”, in which your goal is to attempt to create a settlement and a sustainable environment on planet Mars (كوكب المريخ) by collecting resources and building a colony. Your goal through the challenges you face, is to keep the workers (and humans who live there) happy, as well as dealing with the politicians on Earth who will support and send supplies. There are also important leaders on Mars that you choose. Each leader provide special benefits that may suit your needs, and after some turns, the chosen leader’s time is over and you will need to select new leadership. One of these leaders you can choose is a muslim woman called Maryam Fayed…
This was a big reason I got the game and started playing it. I swear, every time this leader comes up as a choice, I pick her every time without hesitation. It’s amazing to see muslims being included, and not only that, but in such important roles as leadership as well. The game was produced by Europeans. This is such beautiful progress to see really, as muslim representation has been limited or non-existent in the past. Bravo game developers, this is a step in the right direction! I can’t help but give a bit of a pitch here, it’s definitely worth it, especially if you enjoy city building type of games. (Available on platforms such as PC, Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch). And no… I was not paid by the developers for posting this, it comes purely out of my respect and admiration for their work.
In any case, the discovery of this game also led me to discover something much bigger (of which I was not aware) as I came across articles on actual muslim women in relation to space travel! One sister was responsible in leading United Arab Emirates to be the first muslim nation to send a probe to Mars! Somhow I feel that the character Maryam Fayed might have been based on her. Another strong accomplishment is that the first female space explorer was also the first muslim woman to go into space! Sisters, this should be a spark of encouragment, that anything is possible! Don’t let anyone talk you down. These are things that I want to discuss a bit more about in the next input inshallah. Make sure not to miss it…
I hope that you found this to be an interesting input, look forward to my upcoming post on this matter inshallah.
The best of times to you all inshallah.
Peace, happiness, and stay faithful.
