Additional benefits of remembering our Creator

In our last input, we were looking at some of the spiritual benefits of Dhikr, where I gave a brief overview of things such as strengthened faith, purification of the heart (تزكية), and increased Taqwa (تقوى). The remembrance of Allah, (Dhikr), also has psychological, physical and moral benefits as well, and we will take a look at that. As I said in my last input, consider how these things are connected, one thing affecting another. All these aspects are tied.

Not surprisingly, the remembrance of our Creator has a significant psychological effect on us…

سورة الرعد ٢٨
أَلَا بِذِكۡرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطۡمَئِنُّ ٱلۡقُلُوبُ

Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28
Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest!

* Stress Reduction. Dhikr can reduce stress and anxiety. The repetitive nature of reciting words like Subhanallah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest), and La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah), and putting our focus on Him, provides a calming effect. With a calmed mind, we gain another psychological benefit…

* Emotional Stability. Dhikr helps in achieving emotional stability by strengthening feelings of contentment, gratitude, and optimism. It redirects focus from worldly worries to a spiritual peace. We put our trust in Him.

سورة آل عمران ١٦٠
إِن يَنصُرۡكُمُ ٱللَّهُ فَلَا غَالِبَ لَكُمۡۖ

Surah Aal-i-Imraan 3:160
If Allah helps you, none can overcome you

In turn, that brings a…

* Mental Clarity. The practice of Dhikr encourages mindfulness and concentration, leading to better mental clarity and focus. This can improve overall cognitive functioning. (Like thinking, understanding, or remembering).

It can be a pretty evident thing, for example when reading the Quran repeatedly… as we focus on our reading, we learn and understand new things. To quote the input “The road to Jannah“… “As a friend of mine said during Ramadan… “sometimes I go over the same verse and learn something new”. That’s certainly a strong confirmation of what I just wrote.” Indeed it is.

Surah Ibrahim 14:27
Allah will establish in strength those who believe, with the word that stands firm, in this world and in the Hereafter

Several psychological benefits come with remembering Allah, and as mentioned in the beginning of this input, physical and moral benefits as well. These are things we may not think about too often. It may contribute to improve cardiovascular health and provide enhanced morality. That is something we will take a look at next time, inshallah.

For now, I hope this input brought something to consider, and I wish everyone a beautiful and blessed day ahead, inshallah. Spend it well. Jumma Mubarak everyone. All comfort and safety, from the heart.

The best of times to you all inshallah.
Peace, happiness, and stay faithful.
